Chen, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tony-chen\/5227162070\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5162\/5227162070_74b60c838d_z.jpg\" alt=\"Opah, Tsukiji Fish Market, Tokyo\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One of the &#8220;must dos&#8221; in Tokyo is to go to the Tsukiji fish market in the morning. \u00a0This is the largest fish market in Tokyo and literally tons of seafood are processed, sold, and distributed. \u00a0 It&#8217;s said that you should wake up super early (or go after a night out on the town) to attend a tuna auction and go have sushi at a famous sushi bar just outside the market. \u00a0 As of this writing though, it wasn&#8217;t clear that tourists are even allowed to view the auctions anymore (word has it that some dumb tourist put his tongue on a piece of tuna for a photo and so access to the auctions is now restricted!).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So, unless you really want to see the market when it&#8217;s super busy, going later &#8211; like 8:30 or 9:00am &#8211; is fine. \u00a0It&#8217;s far less hectic, you&#8217;re less likely to get in the way, and far less likely to get hurt by any one of the trucks and forklifts driving through the crowded market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Tsukiji Fish Market, Tokyo by T. Chen, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tony-chen\/5228834514\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5249\/5228834514_192cc53a70_z.jpg\" alt=\"Tsukiji Market, Tokyo\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Outside the fish market, you have the &#8220;outer markets&#8221; where just about anything edible is sold &#8211; veggies, chicken, seafood, dried stuff &#8211; you name it. \u00a0 It might be nice to hire a guide to explain what foods you&#8217;re looking at, but it&#8217;s expensive &#8211; it can run almost $300 for the morning. \u00a0Steep! \u00a0So we did the self-guided tour&#8230; there are stores that sell a specific kind of food from a specific prefecture in Japan. \u00a0It&#8217;s that specific.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Tsukiji Market, Tokyo by T. Chen, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tony-chen\/5227944540\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5127\/5227944540_bbe1fbec8d_z.jpg\" alt=\"Tsukiji Market, Tokyo\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, after touring the markets, you can find a sushi place in the outer markets to have some fresh sushi. \u00a0This is about as fresh as it gets. \u00a0Be forewarned though, most of these places seem to get you in and get you out quickly. \u00a0You&#8217;ll be done in less than 30 minutes! \u00a0We went to Sushi Sei &#8211; it was very good and very fresh, but it wasn&#8217;t mind blowing. \u00a0 Maybe that was because our expectations were already super high.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Sushi Sei, Outer Markets, Tsukiji, Tokyo by T.
