Chen, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tony-chen\/4601355252\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3582\/4601355252_5f98917a68_b.jpg\" alt=\"Salinas Grandes in northwest Argentina\" width=\"614\" height=\"405\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Total Miles Traveled:<\/strong> 13,268<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Salinas Grandes is a huge salt flat northwest of Salta. \u00a0Above is an example of a salt pool that is used to harvest salt. \u00a0The water is just below the surface, so they dig these pools to expose the water. \u00a0The water then evaporates from exposure to sun and wind, and what&#8217;s left is clean salt. \u00a0 Not sure how these salt flats were created though &#8211; probably part of prehistoric saltwater lakes?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lisaandtony.com\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/map_salinas.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-403\" title=\"map_salinas\" src=\"http:\/\/lisaandtony.com\/travelblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/map_salinas.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"628\" height=\"312\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">Since salt flats are almost perfectly, well, flat &#8211; they allow for some fun with photography and perspective. \u00a0 Some of you may have already seen these on Facebook, but here they are again, with a little how to.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">Fortunately, our driver has taken a few of these photos before, so he was able to compose some of these for us. \u00a0If I remember correctly, Lisa&#8217;s standing about 20-30 yards away, and I&#8217;m about 15 yards away from the camera.<\/div>\n<p><a title=\"Symbolism?
