Chen, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tony-chen\/5051252715\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4085\/5051252715_4e142a530f_z.jpg\" alt=\"Mutianyu, Great Wall of China, Beijing\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">You all know the Great Wall of China. \u00a0But, have you ever heard about the Great Slide? \u00a0If not, read on.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff, Tony&#8217;s photo-bombing cousin (below) and long-time Beijing resident, \u00a0invited us to join him and several of his friends to do an overnight stay at the Great Wall of China.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Mutianyu, Great Wall of China, Beijing by T. Chen, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tony-chen\/5051882384\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4124\/5051882384_1f871766b8_z.jpg\" alt=\"Mutianyu, Great Wall of China, Beijing\" width=\"428\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can imagine, there are several places you can go to visit the Great Wall, but we went to Mutianyu (about 90 minutes drive from Beijing)\u00a0which featured a &#8220;village&#8221; of ancient Chinese-styled houses that have been renovated and modernized into vacation rentals. \u00a0What a brilliant idea! \u00a0It was conceived of by an American architect who married a Chinese woman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Mutianyu, Great Wall of China, Beijing by T. Chen, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tony-chen\/5051243963\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4151\/5051243963_1bfd6c17e9_z.jpg\" alt=\"Mutianyu, Great Wall of China, Beijing\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Initially, I thought that visiting the Great Wall was a requirement &#8211; one of those &#8220;checklist&#8221; travel things one has to do &#8211; but doesn&#8217;t really make one&#8217;s travels more interesting than they already are. \u00a0However,\u00a0walking on an engineering feat that stretches for thousands of miles and took thousands of years to build \u00a0(it was started over 2500 years ago!)\u00a0is very awe inspiring.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Mutianyu, Great Wall of China, Beijing by T. Chen, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tony-chen\/5051266551\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4092\/5051266551_c4eeeafe36_z.jpg\" alt=\"Mutianyu, Great Wall of China, Beijing\" width=\"428\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; you also encounter some moments, like watching the drinks vendors pack up their entire store on a makeshift backpack (heavy!) and walking the ups and downs of the wall to get home. \u00a0Or random Chinese people suddenly sitting next to me to take a photo with the &#8216;bai ren&#8217; without asking&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Because you're white by T. Chen, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tony-chen\/5051891058\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4132\/5051891058_938edbca17_z.jpg\" alt=\"Because you're white\" width=\"428\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And if the Great Wall isn&#8217;t enough to delight you, Mutianyu features what we call the Great Slide. \u00a0It&#8217;s a giant toboggan course where you ride a sled and slide from the top of the Wall all the way to the bottom of the hill, good for at least 5 minutes of fun!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Mutianyu, Great Wall of China, Beijing by T.
